HISTORIC PRESERVATION

District 3 is home to the oldest neighborhoods in Utah. These neighborhoods and their contributing structures and markers tell a story—much more diverse than many realize—of our city, our state, and the American West. Chris understands that we owe it to past and future generations to preserve the historic character of these neighborhoods while balancing the need for economic diversity and affordable housing units throughout the City.

  • Chris has been one of the Council’s strongest supporters of historic preservation projects.

  • In 2019, Chris celebrated the creation of a joint project between the Redevelopment Agency (RDA) and Preservation Utah to revive a historic home and adjacent property in District 3.

  • Chris helped establish the Friends of the Salt Lake City Cemetery to help preserve the resting place of many of Utah’s historic figures (and several urban legends).

  • In 2019 and 2020, Chris convened a group of residents and City employees to create a smaller, quieter, more appropriately designed well pump facility in the City Creek Historic District.

  • Chris is currently working on plans to revitalize the historic Wasatch Plunge Building (in District 3) and Fisher Mansion.

  • Chris and his husband live in an 1884 Victorian cottage, which they continue to improve and restore.
